Staff Accountant II

Location: Pueblo, CO
Salary: $65000 - $75000 Per Year

Position Description

The Staff Accountant II applies professional accounting concepts and internal policies and procedures to solve and analyze accounting issues. This position assists the Controller as directed and is responsible for the timely preparation and analysis of management and regulatory financial reporting; to include but not limited to the balance sheet, profit and loss statements and other financial and regulatory reporting, including analyzing trends, costs and revenues. The Staff Accountant II performs a variety of daily tasks and participates in special department projects. This fast-paced role sometimes requires working beyond the standard 40-hour week, flexibility is key.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive accounting support across all departments.
  • Analyze cash positions and manage daily liquidity.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and regulatory reports with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reconcile general ledger and correspondent accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and compliance with policies.
  • Record accrual entries and maintain accurate financial documentation and workpapers.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, spreadsheets, and reports for internal use.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and general ledger maintenance activities.
  • Uphold accounting controls and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Solid understanding of GAAP, regulatory accounting standards, and financial institution operations.
  • Proficient in financial statement preparation, general ledger processes, reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Skilled in internal controls, audit standards, risk management and Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced).
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communicator, able to present complex financial data clearly.
  • Collaborative team player with all departments.
  • Strong problem-solving, research, and analytical abilities with creative thinking and sound reasoning.
  • Capable of interpreting data, calculating figures accurately, and following written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills, with the ability to guide others when needed.
  • Committed to confidentiality, adaptable to new responsibilities, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within a banking or financial services environment.

Estimated Pay Range: $65,000-75,000 annually depending on knowledge, experience, skills, and education
